How to show a feed of recent orders in your Shopify product detail page
When you are on your dashboard you’ll want to click on the ‘+ Pre-Built Skill’ button. This will open a box that shows you all of the possible skills you can add to your eCommerce site. Search for the skill by typing ‘social proof’ or scroll until you find the one called “Show Social Proof Feed’.
How to edit and customize the feed of recent orders in Shopify
Now comes the fun part-customizing your feed of recent orders to look and act the way you want it to! The skill is divided into 4 tabs including what to show, where to show it when to show it, and the why tab for A/B testing.
What to show
This tab lets you choose what content to show to your customers, as well as its behaviour. The ‘Content’ tab lets you decide to only show for recent orders, or you can also include add to cart events that did not result in a sale.
The difference is the default notification says “just started buying this” if they add to cart, or “just ordered this” if they bought the product. You can also determine the lookback period here. This lets you decide how far back to show events.
So you can choose to show all orders in the last 24 hours, the last 2 days, or even a week depending on your preferences. You can also choose whether or not to show the shopper’s profile picture.
The ‘Behaviour’ tab allows you to choose the max number of notifications to show in the feed on your product page(s). You can also set the time to not re-show notifications. So if you have a maximum of 5 and a customer has seen all 5 they won’t re-show for 15 minutes by default, or whatever time you set.
If you enable the product context the customer sees only notifications related to the product on the page they are on. You are able to set to show the customer name if it’s available and also choose how long to display each notification for.
The ‘Design’ tab lets you choose how the notification appears. You can change font colour and size, as well as if the notification has a border or not. You’re also able to update the appearance of the profile picture. Check this out to customize the notifications to match the design of your eCommerce store.
Where to show
This tab lets you decide where to show the content in your Shopify pages. You can choose the page or pages for the feed to appear on. By default, this will be on ‘product view pages’. You can also add page filter(s). This allows you to show the skill to only those who have come from a referral URL for example, or those with a certain URL param.
The ‘Location on page” selector allows you to choose where the timer will appear. You can use the drop-down to choose for them to appear: right after, right before, beginning of, end of, or replace a certain section on your site. You can select the URL to appear, but by default, it’ll take your site URL. Clicking this button will show a pop-up explaining how to use the selector.
When to show
This tab lets you decide when to show your countdown timer. You can add certain triggers to show notifications only if the shopper has been on the site for a certain length of time, or if they click on something specific. To read more about conditions and triggers check out this article.
Here you can set triggers and conditions for the products, product counters, shopping cart, shopper location, shopper journey and the date/time.
This means that you can show the feed of recent orders in Shopify if customers are from a specific country, or if it’s a specific day of the week only. There are many options here to allow you to customize the content on your site for your own needs.
Why (A/B testing)
This tab lets you decide if you want to A/B test your Shopify testimonial notifications. It’ll allow you to enable or disable testing and also determine the percentage split of who to show the content to. The default is a 50/50 split, meaning 50% of the time customers see the testimonials, and the other 50% do not see the testimonials. This data can be used to compare to each other and determine whether the skill is helping you out.
