What is a smart free shipping top bar?

A smart free shipping top bar is a header at the top of your site that lets your customers know how much more they need to spend to get free shipping. This smart bar tracks the cost of items added to cart and updates the dollar amount in the bar to reflect it.

How to add a smart free shipping top bar?

When you are on your dashboard you’ll want to click on the ‘+ Add Widget’ button. This will open a box that shows you all of the possible widgets you can add to your eCommerce site. Search for the widget by typing 'shipping' or scroll until you find the one called “Free Shipping Top Bar’.

How to edit and customize the free shipping top bar?

Now comes the fun part-customizing your free shipping top bar to look and act the way you want it to! The widget is divided into 5 tabs including location, content, design, behavior, and conditions.

Tab #1: Location

This tab lets you decide where to show the content in your Shopify pages. By default, this will be on 'all store sections' so that the banner is always on the top of the page as customers browse the site. The 'Location on page" selector allows you to choose where the timer will appear. You can use the drop-down to choose for it to appear: right after, right before, beginning of, end of, or replace a certain section on your site. You can select the URL to appear. Hover your mouse on your site and click to choose an element. Once a location is selected your widget will show up in the preview window on the right. You're also able to add filters to your widget. This allows you to show the widget to only those who have come from a referral URL for example, or those with a certain URL param.

Tab #2: Content

This tab lets you choose what content to show to your customers. It's a bit different than some of the other widgets as it shows the 'code' used to create it. The easiest way to edit here is to look for the white coloured text and change it.

Tab #3: Design

The design tab lets you choose a pre-designed theme or change the colours yourself to fit the look and feel of your site.

Tab #4: Behavior

The 'Behavior' tab lets you decided the minimum amount to spend to receive free shipping. You can also choose a rounding threshold (so it rounds to the nearest whole dollar rather than including cents for example). If you want to show a message in the bar once the minimum amount is reached you can enable that in this tab as well. You can also enable or disable the state/province/region slider if you don't ship to all locations. This shows the bar to only people in the countries you've selected.

Tab #5: Conditions

This tab lets you decide when to show your smart free shipping bar. It has triggers and conditions. The triggers let you choose to show the shipping bar if a customer has been on the site for a certain amount of time, if they've clicked something specific or just show when the page loads. The conditions are based on the shopping cart, the shopper location or journey and the date/time. So if you only can offer free shipping Monday-Friday you can set this as a condition. If you only want to show the bar if customers have looked at a specific product you can set a shopper journey condition. A location condition let's you show the bar to customer's in a specific country or city if your shipping is more selective, or if you're offering a special deal.

A/B testing

This tab lets you decide if you want to A/B test your Shopify testimonial notifications. It’ll allow you to enable or disable testing and also determine the percentage split of who to show the content to. The default is a 50/50 split, meaning 50% of the time customers see the testimonials, and the other 50% do not see the testimonials. This data can be used to compare to each other and determine whether the widget is helping you out.
