Removing the “Time Ago” string in Social Proof

What are the Social Proof Skills and what do they show?

There are two skills in Fera that show social proof, the Social Proof Feed and the Social Proof Popup. These two different types of notifications show a shopper’s name (or a generic ‘someone’), the location of the shopper, what they bought/added to cart and the time that this event occurred. You can also display a profile picture image of the shopper, or in Social Proof Popups an image of the product they bought/added to cart.

Where do I find the code that controls my Social Proof?

The area where you can find the templates that control social proof and add or remove any code is the Custom CSS/HTML (Advanced) Tab. If you’re unsure of anything or don’t know much about code it is best to leave these alone, ask a developer or reach out to our customer support before changing anything here. If you do change something and it is incorrect it will give you an error message saying your changes won’t work. Worst case scenario you can also reset the templates to their default setting to revert any changes.

The Time Ago String

As mentioned the social proof notifications show the time/date that an event occurred. You can see all of the events if you go to Reports–>Social Proof Events. Only those events that occurred within the lookback you set will show. So if I set 15 minutes, only events that occurred in the last 15 minutes will show live on my site. You can change this to several different time periods as seen below:

Lookback Settings

Some merchants don’t want to use the time ago string. This may be because you’re smaller and want to be able to show all events from the last month. If they showed dates and times it may show the social proof as less urgent and customers may think the store is not as popular for some reason. There is an easy way to remove this by deleting the code string from the template.

Enable the HTML/Liquid Templates. Then we can see the code. We are looking for “banana-event-time-ago”. This is on line 8. If we delete that line of code and save we should see the preview notification change. Before it looks like this:

After we delete the line it looks like this:

Removing the Time Ago String Code in Social Proof Popups

Enable the HTML/Liquid Templates. Then we can see the code. We are looking for “banana-event-time-ago”. This is on line 22. If we delete that line of code and save we should see the preview notification change.

To reset any changes press the “reset to default template” under the Custom HTML/Liquid ‘Update Preview’ button. This will revert the template back to the original one.
